The breakthrough in the musical career of this band started in 2009, in July, with the release of their debut album “Lungs”, which soon after its release occupied the top position in the UK Albums Chart. Today this group of rock and soul musicians with Florence Welch as a vocalist is a holder of MasterCard British Album award, and the group nominated for Best New Artist award at 53rd Grammy Awards.
Recently “Florence and the Machine” released their second album “Ceremonials”, which gained great popularity in the UK and in the US.
The name of the band is closely related to the band vocalist Florence Welch early musical career years, when she participated in the musical project entitled “Florence Robot/Isa Machine” together with Isabella "Machine" Summers. At present, apart from front vocalist Florence Welch and keyboard player Isabella Summers there are four more musicians: Robert Ackroyd (guitar and backing vocals), Chris Hayden (drums, percussion and backing vocals), Mark Saunders (bass guitar and backing vocals) and Tom Monger (harp).
The band managed to release their debut album just in 2009, but from the first day the “Lungs” saw the light it was gaining great popularity with the public in the UK an
d a bit later in the US, and was a great commercial success. Now this album is famous worldwide for its lead single "Kiss with a Fist" and a single "Dog Days Are Over".
The band’s second album “Ceremonials” was recorded in the UK and released on 31 October in 2011. By this time “Florence and the Machine” band has a wide range of singles being the soundtracks for the world-famous films like “Wild Child” “Jennifer's Body” “St. Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold”, “Eat Pray Love”, and for TV shows television shows “Grey's Anatomy” “The Vampire Diaries” “So You Think You Can Dance”.
